Good
Food
1. Good Food
Food is one of the basic needs of human beings.
We can’t live without food. But any kind of food does not serve the purpose. We
need good food. It means the right kind of food for good health. It is balanced
diet. It is nutritious. It must contain natural solo stances. These are
essential for proper growth of our health. Though the food is good but we must
not eat too much. We have to eat only a certain amount of food which our body
needs. We do not need the same kind of food in the same quantity. It depends on
our growth and physical structure.
2. Developing tourism
Among the neighboring and adjoining countries of
Bangladesh, excepting Nepal, the amount of foreign exchange earned from tourism
by India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. is few times more than our entire
export earnings. The developed countries of the world such as United States,
Canada, The United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, etc are emphasizing on
the due importance of the development of tourism, as it is helpful in attaining
diversified prosperity. For the growth of tourism of any country the most
important factors are political stability, law and order, improved
communications and transport infrastructure, which include advanced railways,
roads and highways, navigable waterways and importantly, aviation system, as
well as, positive government policies regarding tourism. There are two types of
tourists, one is local tourist and the other is foreign tourist. Foreign
tourists play a special role in the matter of foreign exchange earnings, while
local tourists help to inject impetus and momentum into the economy by way of
domestic expenditure. To facilitate the rapid growth of tourism the developed countries
of the world do not usually maintain state ownership and maintenance of tourist
accommodation services, such as hotels and rest houses. Consequently, in nearly
each district town of advanced countries, there are modern hotels with good
accommodation and other facilities. When any state guest goes to any developed
country, the accommodation and bilateral meetings are arranged in a hotel,
commensurate with the status and position of the state guest. In the same way,
at present, in the developed countries of the world, no permanent training
institute is in place for the training of officials of both public and private
sectors. Cheap transportation is a prime prerequisite for development of the
tourism industry. In the developed countries, other than the ministers, no
government official gets the facility of transport with driver provided by the
state. In our country, till today, well organized taxi cab service has neither
been developed in Dhaka nor in any other district headquarters. The
geographical location of Bangladesh as well as its environment and people’s
sincerity are congenial towards development of the tourism industry. Some of
the prime tourist attractions, or locations, which possess a tremendous degree
of tourism potential are the longest stretch of sea beach at Cox’s Bazar,
landscape enveloped by hills, vast haors (marshlands found in Bangladesh’s
north eastern part), an oceanic island (Saint Martin), coastal forestry,
ancient Buddhist monuments, different Hindu and Muslim shrines (many of which
have historical significance) and different Moghul establishments of the middle
century. In addition, Sundarban, the world’s largest mangrove forest, was
inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, which would doubtlessly
serve to add to the tourism value of Sundarban. Furthermore, as of present,
Sundarban has been enlisted as one of the potential entries into the New Seven
Wonders of Nature.

living standard and increases corruption in our society. Price hike increases
the sufferings of the common people. The poor and the middle class people of
our society are affected by it. Nevertheless, the worst sufferers of it are

examination. The patients also suffer terribly because operation stops in
hospitals for load shedding. Load shedding at night also encourages the
thieves. However, this problem should be solved at any cost. The concerned

Leisure is the time when a man is free from
routine work and can do whatever he like best. In a word, it is a temporary
relief from the monotonous routine task of our daily life. Village people spend
otheir leisure by flying kites, fishing, playing swimming and gardening. City

using computer, going park and zoo. The common sports are football, cricket, ha
du du, chess etc. and the common pastimes are gossiping listening radio,

flowers are bloomed everywhere. People enjoy it very much. In the late winter,
many people travel from one place to another and enjoy the natural beauty.
Besides, people enjoy then various kinds of games like badminton, volleyball,
dariabandha and ha-du-du etc. Travelling is a good leisure. It refreshes our
mind and broadens our outlook. Nevertheless, it is true that travelling is an
expensive pastime. As I am a student, I do not get much time for leisure. I
spend my leisure by playing cricket and reading novels on holiday, watching
television and visiting many nice places. However, leisure should be
significant for everyone. Leisure/ Pastime
9. THE SEASON I LIKE MOST
There are six seasons in Bangladesh. I like all
the seasons but I like spring most. Spring is my favourite season and perhaps
it is favourite to all. Spring comes to us with many pleasant things and
beautiful scenes and sounds. I like this season for many reasons. The summer is
a season of terrible heat. Everyday feels uneasy. During the rainy season the
roads become muddy. There is water everywhere. People can not move easily. They
face many difficulties. During the early autumn and late autumn these
disadvantages do not wholly disappear. Winter also brings troubles, People
shiver in cold. There is dense for everywhere. The sun is hardly seen. The poor suffer a lot. But
spring has none of these disadvantages. It has many attractive scenes and
pleasant things. So I like the season most. After winter the spring season
comes with her lovely appearance. Spring is called the queen of seasons. It
comes with pleasant sights and sounds. Fields and meadows become green. Flowers
bloom in different trees. Birds sing from behind the new leaves. We hear the
cuckoo singing sweetly. There are village fairs on various occasions. During
spring bees are busy in gathering honey. A gentle breeze blows. Everything
looks gay and cheerful. It is also a season of fruits, Mango, black-berry, and
jack fruit. Lichies have buds of them. Farmers also sow the seeds of jute and
paddy. Spring is the best of all seasons for its attractive sounds and sights.
Our poets have praised this season.
10. Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa was a great personality. She was a
great saint, who was in charge of a missionary at Kolkata in India. She was
born in the then Yogoslavia in the early of the 20th century. But she settled in India and also died there.
Her profession was serving humanity. For serving wretched humanity she
travelled different countries. She did
not sit idle even for a single day without serving humanity. She was a model of
great humanity. With a wonderful feeling of humanity and a soft sense of
goodness of God she served the sick people. She never hated serving the sick
people. was is a great source of inspiration to the people world wide. Because
of her wonderful feeling towards the wretched humanity she lives in the heart
of the people. She won the heart of the
people since she served them like the lively goddess on earth. Because of her
great sacrifice she was given noble prize in peace. All the money she got out
of the prizes were spent for serving humanity. This great lady passed away in
the last year of the last century. It is an irreparable loss to the people of
the world. We can’t forget her great contribution to the world. She is still
alive in the depth of our heart.
11. The National Memorial
The national memorial
is situated at Savar in Dhaka. It has great significance for the future
generation. Our descendants will learn about the liberation war and its
glorious achievement from it. It symbolizes the nation's respect for the
martyrs of the War of Liberation. Arithmetically, It stands 150 feet tall. But
every martyr it symbolizes stands much taller. It is an achievement which is
immeasurable. There are seven towers in it. Its foundation was lain on the
first anniversary of the Victory Day. It is built with concrete. It stands on a
base which is 130 feet wide. The relics of the Liberation War will be kept in
the museum built near the monument. The memorial reminds its visitors the great
sacrifices of the freedom loving people of Bangladesh. It was built to warn all
oppressors that the weapons of freedom need not be very big and that oppression
will always be defeated. I feel proud standing before it. I show respect
standing before it. About 5 months ago I visited it. I feel very happy reaching
there. The largest complex of the national memorial have impressed me most.
People show respect thereby giving garlands and bowing their heads.
12. A Railway Porter
A railway porter is a
familiar figure who usually carries the luggage of the passengers. He generally
look very strong and self-confident. He usually wears a uniform, blue or red in
color. He always bears a piece of cloth to support the load on his head. His
activities are confined to the railway stations. He becomes active when a train
arrives at the railway station. He hurries to the passengers who have luggage
to carry away. He helps the passengers get on the trains or get down from it.
There are a number of porters in a railway station and they are well organized
too. It is their bad habit that they demand a high rate for their service.
Nevertheless they are helpful to the passengers to a great extent.
13. Good Manners
Good manners are those qualities that make a man gentle, polite and well behaved. It keeps him free from doing any evil work. It can be gained easily through will power. A person can gain it by obeying the orders and advice of his parents, teachers and seniors. Firstly, it must be gained from family. The family atmosphere teaches a person how to behave in different situations with different people of different tastes and temperaments. Student life is the best period to cultivate good manners and noble qualities. An obedient boy or student can be a person of good manners. By obeying the instructions of seniors from his boyhood, he can be a man of good manners. Honest, well behaved, hard working and pious men are liked by all in the society. To be successful in life, each and everyone should have the qualities of good manners.
14. Early Rising
Early rising is the practice of rising up from
bed early in the morning. As habit is man’s second nature, the nature and habit
both are equally responsible for his day to day actions. Usually a person
acquires a good habit to get his skills accelerated. If anybody forms the habit
of rising is such a habit which contributes a lot of the smooth running of our
life. An early rising wakes up in the early morning when the air is fresh and
healthy. The environment around us is free of any kind of pollution. One can
inhale the fresh air with high oxygen level. More over a light physical
exercise taken at this time can assure us a healthy body and an energetic
approach to our daily work. Thus he can perform his jobs properly and finish it
early ahead of time. This increases his working capacity as well as reputation.
Thus an early riser can become healthier, wealthier and wiser than an ordinary
person. On the contrary a late riser is usually late in performing his duties.
He may suffer from lack of confidence. This restrains him from being a successful
one. Time and tide wait for none. An early riser can make the best use of his
time. So, people should build up the habit of early rising for a better
life.
15. A Hartal Day
A hartal day is a frequent phenomenon in the
recent socio-political perspective of Bangladesh. It is observed by the
political parties in order to create pressure on the government for fulfilling
their demand. In a hartal day, procession starts from early in the morning and
continues throughout the day. People walk in a line with chanting slogans. They
carry placards, banners etc. which exhibit their view point aiming at the
people and government. As a result of procession, clashes occur between police
and the strikers. Sometimes it takes a terrible situation which police
cannot control. They take recourse to charge with sticks or throw tear gas. At
that moment, the sounds of crackers and explosion of bombs are heard. The angry
mob set fire on vehicles and shops. Many students, businessmen, professionals,
taxi drivers, rickshaw pullers even ordinary people lose their lives due to
reckless activities of the strikers. All vehicular transports stop moving on
the roads. Rickshaws and cars are broken by the angry mob. Despite such
situation, people go to their offices and work places facing hurdles. Hartal
has a serious negative impact on the economy of the country as well as on the
normal life of the city inhabitants. In my opinion, we should protest against
the misdeeds of the ruling party but the expression of protest by the oppositions
should be constitutional. We must not forget that ours is a developing poor
country and any adverse impact on our economy affects equally the government
and the common people at large. So, we should find out possible alternatives of
hartal to press our demands.
16. Pahela Baishakh
The Pahela Baishakh is the first day of Bangla
New Year. It comes with a great festivity. In keeping with the age-old
tradition, people observe the day with enjoyment. The day is celebrated with
much zest and joy all over the country. Different programs are held on this
day. Among those Baishakhi Mela is one of them, Baishakhi Mela is held at every
nook and corner of the country. Generally it is held in open space. In village,
it is held near river, canal or under a big banyan tree where people can gather
easily. The people of all walks of life attend the Mela to buy and sell things.
Generally earthen pots and dolls, sweetmeats, cosmetics, etc are sold in a
Baishakhi Mela. The local artisans perform different folk songs to please the
audience. At times a Baishakhi Mela is held for two or three days. In that
case, a paddle is erected. Now-a-days Baishakhi Mela is held in towns and
cities also. The city people find much pleasure to attend such programs and can
idea about our culture. In fact, this kind of fair entertains all classes of
people with pleasure as well as it act as a boost to our rural economy. It
upholds our culture and tradition. As it is a part of our tradition, we should
try to flourish it.
17. Digital Bangladesh
The concept of a digital Bangladesh refers to an ICT based country where all the possible tasks of the country will be performed by using digital technology. Its motto is the overall development of the country and the people. Making a digital Bangladesh by 2021 is one of the commitments of the present Awami League government. After the election, the present Awami League government has begun the process to make a digital Bangladesh. If the government can establish a digital Bangladesh, corruption will be drastically reduced by enhancing transparency and accountability. It will save people's time and money. It will open doors for the people to improve their conditions. It will also improve banking and financial activities. Money transfers and transaction of business will be within seconds by clicking the mouse of a computer. The implementation of digital Bangladesh can establish Bangladesh as one of the developed countries in the world by 2021. But this dream of digital Bangladesh is not an easy task. Both the policy makers in the government and the people in general should work hand in hand to materialize this dream.
18. Child Labor
Child labor means physical labor which is
imposed upon innocent children. Child labor harms the normal growth of
children. Children who work hard in a factory or in a field are deprived of the
opportunities to develop themselves physically and mentally. These children are
engaged in various jobs. They are seen very often in breaking brick and stones.
They are also found to carry brick and other building materials from one place
to another. Some of them are also seen as house servants or maid servants who
work from early morning to midnight. They are always misbehaved and very often
they are punished mercilessly. They are ill-treated everywhere. They are
deprived of the light of education. They also could contribute to the country
if they were educated properly. The concerned authority should take proper
steps to ensure their basic human rights. Besides, we also should be more humane
and sympathetic in behavior to these working children.
19. The Cricket Game and Bangladesh
The word ‘Cricket’ is now so popular in
Bangladesh that we see with great interest that our young children play cricket
in any available spot. It is a wave that has caught us. Cricket is undoubtedly
a very popular game. On the other hand, it is undeniable that cricket is a very
time consuming game. But now conditions have changed. A one day test match of
50 over is going to push back 5 days cricket matches. However, it is important
to note that Bangladesh is steadily gaining success in this game. Bangladesh
Cricket Team won the I. C. C trophy and qualified the World Cup Cricket. This
year Bangladesh is contesting in the World Cup Cricket. Our team has already
shown remarkable success in this World Cup Cricket. Our government is committed
to render all-out support to raise the standard of this game. And let all of us
hope for the best.
A Paragraph on
Pastimes in Indian Sub-continent
20. Pastimes in Indian Sub-continent
The activities we do regularly for pleasure
rather than work are called pastimes. Pastimes provide us with the
opportunities of rest and recreation. In Indian sub-continent, people of both
villages and cities have their own pastimes. Usually village people spend their
pastimes by chatting and by doing various socio-cultural activities. Some
village children and boys play different kinds of rural games like ‘Ha-du-du’,
boat racing, kiting, fishing, searching for birds and nests on trees. Some of
them play football, cricket, badminton, volley-ball and so on. The
village women and girls usually stay at home and spend their pastimes by
gossiping, sewing and embroidering. The people in towns are generally educated
and they spend their pastime reading newspapers, magazines, novels and other
literary works. They also participate in the discussions on political issues at
tea stalls. The younger generation in cities is very much fond of playing
cricket, operating computer, driving motor-bike, cycling and reading books. The
women in towns are fond of watching drama and films on television and listening
music. In fact, common pastime for all walks of people in villages and towns is
watching television.
21. Experience of a Picnic
Picnic in winter is a common feature in our
country. It is usually arranged by educational institutions, offices, clubs
etc. Last year in December, I went for a picnic at a tea garden in Sylhet. A
club of our locality organized it. As a member of the club, I participated in
it. On the fixed day, we started our journey with a rented bus early in the
morning and reached the destination before noon. We selected an open space
which was shaded by trees. Then we proceeded to make arrangements for cooking
our food. We brought all the equipments with us. Sajeeb was in charge of
cooking. We all assisted him. It took only two hours to prepare the delicious
dishes. Since it was a place of natural beauty, we moved here and there and
enjoyed the scenery after taking our food. We also took many snaps of beautiful
places. Really, my mind was filled with feeling of great joy at the sight of
hundreds of green trees. I felt much thrilled and ecstasy at my heart when I
saw some beautiful birds flying from trees to trees and pouring down their
melodious notes of joy. After lots of enjoyments, we decided to return. Before
evening, we got ready to start back. Days come and days go. This is the law of
nature. But there are some special days in our hearts which cannot be
forgotten. So, I can never forget the day.
22. The Greenhouse Effect
Greenhouse effect means the permanent rise of
temperature in the atmosphere of the world. The carbon dioxide is primarily
responsible for temperature rise in atmosphere. The carbon dioxide is given off
when coal and oil are burnt. The emission of CFC, Methane
and Nitro oxide around the world are also responsible for this. The
presence of these gases to a large amount is making the Ozone layer thinner day
by day. At this, the ultra violate ray of the sun easily penetrates the atmosphere
of the earth. As a result, the ice covering North and South poles is melting
and may eventually lead to a rise in sea levels which can submerge many areas
of the world including Bangladesh. Many species of animals and plants are
endangered with the threat of extinction. It is predicted that midway through
the 21st century, the temperature of the earth may rise as much
as 4°c for this greenhouse effect. This will reduce our ability to grow food
and severely damage wild life, raise sea- levels and thereby flood the coastal
areas. So, proper steps must be taken to stop greenhouse effect. Initiatives
should be taken to control the sources of emission of carbon dioxide. Tree
plantation program should be made more popular. We should plant more trees and preserve
those that were planted before.
23. A Martyr of the Liberation War
I have not seen the Liberation War of
Bangladesh. But I have learnt many facts about our Liberation War from my
grandmother. From her I came to know how the brutal Pak army killed my younger
uncle Abul Hossain who joined in the war. In 1971 my uncle was a young man of
20 and a college going student. He was a very familiar figure to the villagers
without any political background. In the April 1971, a stream of homeless
people started to go to India. Situated near the border of India, our village
became a resting place of border crossing people. My uncle heard from them
about the oppression of the Pakistani Army and their collaborators. Hearing the
torture and repression by Pak army, my uncle became excited. He took final
decision to go to India to take training so that he could fight against Pak
army. After taking necessary training, he returned homeland with a group of
freedom fighters and started fighting against Pak army and their collaborators.
One day he was killed in a face to face attack at Haluaghat in Mymensingh. The
enemy surrounded the group of freedom fighters. They fought for about a week.
Then their drinking water was finished All of them were very thirsty. So, my
uncle just started firing to make a passage to go out for water and at one
point he was shot. However, they killed most of the enemies by a suicidal
attack with grenade. Other freedom fighters successfully occupied the shelter
of the Pak army at the cost of my uncle’s life.
24. Advantages of City Life
The tendency of modern civilization is to give
prominence to city life. City life has many advantages. Here one can get all
the amenities of modern life. So, the standard of life is higher in a city. All
cities have good schools, colleges and universities to provide quality higher
education. City life has nowadays become attractive too. Most of the people
living in cities are generally educated. A great many people lead a life of
comfort and luxury in a city. The best medical aids and hospitals are available
in the cities. A city provides for better sanitation and good supply of pure
water for city dwellers. All the roads are metallic and furnished
with electric lights. There are better facilities for transport and
communication. There are also provisions for games, sports, cultural
activities, amusements and different kinds of recreations for the people. Good
facilities for trade, commerce and industries are available in a city. People
can get employment opportunities easily in a city. In consideration of all
these advantages, people prefer to live in a city.
25. Price-hike
The rise in price of essential commodities is
called price hike. There are many reasons of price-hike. Short supply of
commodities and money inflation are the main causes of price-hike. Today
price-hike is a common affair in our country. All the newspapers of the country
are publishing the news of price hike with great concern. The prices of almost
all essential commodities such as rice, dal, wheat, oil, vegetables etc. are
going up beyond the buying capacity of the common people. As a result, the poor
section of our country is suffering a lot for the price-hike of necessary
goods. Smuggling and black-marketing are the main factors of price hike. The
concerned authority should take effective measures to control price-hike and to
stop the smuggling or black marketing for keeping the price of essential goods
stable. The government also should take immediate effective steps to keep down
the prices of necessary things as much as possible. Besides, we all of us
should come forward to help the government to control the rising of price.
Those who are involved in smuggling or black marketing should be identified and
punished publicly.
26. International Mother Language Day
The International Mother Language Day is
observed worldwide by UNESCO showing respect to the languages of the nations of
the world. It is a great achievement for the Bengali to have its own mother
language day as an international mother language day. UNESCO declared our
mother language day as the International Mother Language Day on November 17,
1999. With this declaration our mother tongue Bangla got an international
recognition. This great occasion remind us the heroic sons of the soil who
sacrificed their lives to glorify our mother language. Barket, Salam, Jabber
and Rafiq were among those who sacrificed their lives to this great cause. They
kissed death at shot of the Pakistani ruler. On this day, the entire nation
shows its respect to the heroic sons for their supreme sacrifice with respect
and gravity. Various programmers are taken to observe the day. We start the
program offering the bouquet of flower at the feet of the Shaheed Minar. The
President and the Prime Minister pay their tribute to the martyrs in the
morning and deliver their messages. Besides, the people of the world pay their
homage to the martyrs and feel their respective languages. Actually, we are
proud of our heroic sons who have brought this honor to our nation. This day
teaches us to be determined to fulfill the motives for which our valiant sons
sacrificed their lives

28. Female Education
Napoleon once said "Give me an educated
mother and I will give you an educated nation”. This statement is enough to
prove the importance of female education. Once female education was neglected
in Bangladesh. Our women folk could not get the chance of education for various
problems. Early marriage and the narrowness of our outlook were mainly
responsible for this. Parents thought it waste of time and money to educate
their girls. They considered that girls were intellectually inferior to male
children. They did not allow them to move freely and to participate in any
outside work. They did not understand that if girl children were educated they
could be as competent as male children. It is unfortunate that still there are
some people who strongly oppose the female education. However, the scenario has
changed nowadays. At present, girls are encouraged to study and admitted into
schools, colleges and universities. Government has taken some steps to educate
female children. Education for girls up to Degree level has been made free with
a monthly stipend. This encourages them to continue their education. We should
remember that only educated women can change the picture of our society. We
hope the literacy rate of women in our country will increase substantially in
near future.
29. Necessity of Education
Education is one of the basic needs of human
beings and is essential for any kind of development. It is known as the
backbone of a nation. Without education no nation can prosper. So, there is no
alternative to education. The main purpose of education is to enlighten the
individual and develop his/her capacity to the limit. It trains the individual
to choose the right thing to go ahead. It ennobles our mind and refines our
sensibility. It also widens our outlook and helps us become aware of our rights
and responsibilities. It is often compared to light which removes the darkness
of ignorance. It helps us distinguish between right and wrong. It also helps us
promote humanity and universal brotherhood. It teaches us how to earn well and
how to spend well. It provides us with the knowledge of health, sanitation and
population control. It helps us to lead a happy, peaceful and decent life.
Therefore, it is our bounden duty to send our children to school with a view to
receiving essential education that helps them to make good citizens and lead a
planned and prosperous life.

31. Women’s Contribution to the Development of a Country
Women constitute half of the total population in
our country. In Bangladesh, women are playing a vital role in maintaining
family peace and welfare as well as in building nation. After the independence
of Bangladesh in 1971, our women folk have joined the nation building
activities hand by hand with their male partners. Most of the conspicuous
changes in our country would not be possible without the presence of our
working women. Beside household activities, they are now involved in wide range
of professions. By receiving higher education, they are becoming doctors,
engineers, pilots, teachers, administrators and so on. It is not only the
educated women who are opting for work but also women with little or no
education have come out from their cocoons to earn and to be self reliant. They
are contributing much to the economy of the country. The role of women in
nation building in our country is highly appreciable. The holding of the office
of the prime minister by women for three consecutive times proves that the role
of women in Bangladesh is very important. Besides, our women are running state
affairs, representing public opinions at the parliament and holding key
position in the national activities, even they are included to arm forces. In
fact, they are playing a great role in the socio-economic development of our
country.
32. A Paragraph on "Necessity of Learning English"
The importance of English cannot be described in
words because it’s an international language. We need to learn English for our
higher education. It’s the store house of all knowledge of all books. All the
books on higher education of every branch of knowledge are written in English.
If we want to earn vast knowledge and higher education in any branch, we are to
take the help from those books. All that is the best in European and American
thought is available through English. If this source is dried up, we shall go
backwards. Again modern science which is advancing by leaps and bounds is a
gift of the science. Today more than 80% of all the information in the world’s
computers is in English. So if we don’t know English, we will fail to keep pace
with the progressive force of the world. English is a must in order to get a good
job. Today organizations need employers who speak earn more money. It is the
official or semi- official language in more than 60 countries and of many

international organizations. So to maintain daily official correspondence

guests and delegates come to our country. They don’t know our mother tongue. So
we need to learn English to communicate with them. Statistics show about 350
million people speak English as a first language and another 300 million use it
as a second language. From this we can say that we need to learn English to
join the advanced and developed world. Then we can say that English is a
passport to successful future.
33. A Paragraph on Value of Reading Newspaper:
Newspaper
is a moving mirror on the world we live in. During the 17th century the
newspaper was first published in China. Through reading newspaper, one can
acquire all the important news at a glance. A newspaper can help a student in
many ways. It can provide the extra knowledge about the world people and their
customs and cultures. By reading newspaper, a student can easily acquire the
general knowledge which may help to build up his/ her future life. Newspaper
sharpens intellect and makes one curious to know about the world outside. If a
student reads a newspaper regularly, he/she will certainly enrich his/her
vocabulary and improve his/ her style of writing. A student can utilize this
knowledge in his or her practical life. Newspaper plays a vital role in the
life of human being. To ignore newspaper is like keeping our eyes shut. It not
only reflects what is happening but also tells us why it is happening.
Sometimes newspaper gives biased and false news and comments and thus misleads
the readers. One should not, however, be blindly influenced by these comments.
It is important for a reader not to rely entirely on what he reads in
newspaper. Every reader should judge for himself/herself the value of what
newspaper tells him/her.
34. The Game I Like
Most/My Favorite Game
There are various kinds of sports in our
country. I enjoy many games such as cricket, basketball, hockey and football.
Of all these games, I like football most. It was first played in England. At
present football is played across the world. Football is an outdoor game. It is
played in a field of 120 yards long and 80 yards wide. There are two goal posts
on each end. They are eight yards apart and have a bar on them. The bar is put
eight feet above the ground. The game is played between two teams of eleven
players on each side. The game needs 100 minutes to end with an interval of 10
minutes in the middle. A referee conducts the game. At the beginning, the ball
is placed at the centre of the field. The play begins when the referee
whistles. Then each team tries to pass the ball through the opposite goal post.
There is a hard competition between two teams. It is an exciting and thrilling
time when a player becomes crazy to make a score. Only the goalkeepers can
touch and catch the ball with hands. The team which scores more goals wins the
game. There is a good discipline in the game. Every player must abide by the
rules. Not only the players but also the spectators come to know how to
struggle to become successful. Football is a nice game. It has instructive and
cultural value. It also gives us much pleasure. After our school, in the
afternoon we usually go to field and play football. In all respects, I like
this game most.
